The Brooklyn Daily Eagle recently profiled Professor Lisa Smith and the Law School’s Prosecutor’s Clinic for its pioneering work. Professor Smith spoke about how students learn in a clinical setting and described how the clinic is focusing on community prosecution, specifically in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Sunset Park. She said, “I want [students] as new lawyers to not only understand the law but rather to understand why they are doing what they are doing and who they are doing it for. I want them to ask: `how do my actions as a lawyer affect this community?’ I hope that when they look at a case file, they see more than just a set of papers. I want the file to come to life.”
