MasterCard Worldwide’s Noah Hanft ’76 was named General Counsel of the Year at the 2012 Global Counsel Awards, hosted by the International Law Office (ILO) and the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC). Representatives from over 90 international companies attended the award ceremony in New York, which celebrated the achievements of in-house counsel who excel in their fields.

The ILO selected Hanft for the top award after receiving numerous nominations by his peers. One respondent spoke of Hanft’s skill and leadership: “It is rare to see a General Counsel orchestrate the legal counseling of a multinational corporate giant with such a unique blend of Brooklyn street-smarts, rigorous legal acumen, realistic business judgment and sense of humor. The strength and efficiency of the MasterCard legal department is a testament to Noah Hanft’s leadership, vision and high ethical standards.”

Hanft is general counsel, corporate secretary, and chief payment systems integrity and compliance officer for MasterCard Worldwide, where he has worked since 1984. He oversees the company’s legal affairs, public policy, compliance, fraud management, and security and risk services. He has previously worked at AT&T, Ladas & Parry, and the Legal Aid Society, where he now serves on the Board of Directors.

Hanft is a generous and loyal friend of Brooklyn Law School. He is a member of the President's Advisory Council and a member of the 1901 Society. He has also participated in the Dean’s Roundtable Luncheon series, speaking to students about career paths and his work as general counsel of a multinational company.
