In a recent op-ed for the Huffington Post, Professor Jonathan Askin addresses child pornography charges by a Congressional committee against environmental activist, Maria Gunnoe. During her testimony on the consequences of coal industry water contamination, several members of the Committee banned Gunnoe from displaying a supporting document photo of a child in a tub of polluted water, calling the picture pornographic.
Professor Askin criticized the Committee's actions. “I never thought I would see the day when documentary evidence of coalmine pollution would be turned into allegations against a sworn witness that she was not an environmental advocate but rather a child pornographer. It seems that politics is dirtier than ever.”
