Presented by OUTlaws and the National Lawyers Guild, this session will focus on the legal and social issues facing queer youth in foster care and shelters. The panel will present on impact litigation and advocacy efforts underway relating to the following rights: government benefits; access to education; confidentiality of sexual orientation, gender expression and HIV status; access to mental and health care; and physical safety and violence in shelters and housing placements. It will also cover extended service programs serving LGBTQ youth as they transition out of foster care or locate transitional housing.
