About Professor Zaretsky
Professor Barry Zaretsky was a treasured member of the BLS community who died suddenly in 1997, but left a lasting legacy. A distinguished bankruptcy and commercial law scholar, he was a teacher and mentor to countless BLS students.

“It is touching that the current students, none of whom had the chance to meet Barry, have decided to dedicate the Race Judicata to his honor,” noted Professor Mary Ellen Fullerton. Barry was a dedicated jogger who participated enthusiastically in past races. His family was present for the event.

About the Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice
The Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice (SLJ) in Brooklyn is one of several small, college-prep public high schools in New York created by the non-profit Urban Assembly. Most students have expressed an interest in the law, though not all want to be lawyers. Law-related activities supplement their rigorous curriculum, including debates, mock trials, moot court, internships and field trips to courts and law offices. Brooklyn Law School is proud to have established a mentor program with the school. Twenty-two pairs of BLS and SLJ students began working together in the fall of 2004 through a pro bono project of the BLS Public Service Programs Office. Please visit www.sljhs.org.
