On July 10, 2007, Professor Neil Cohen spoke at the UNCITRAL Congress on Modern Law for Global Commerce in Vienna, Austria. UNCITRAL is the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. The U.N. established the Commission in 1966 in recognition that disparities in national laws governing international trade created obstacles to the flow of trade, and it regarded the Commission as the vehicle by which the United Nations could play a more active role in reducing or removing these obstacles. The Congress in Vienna was held in celebration of the Commission’s 40th anniversary. For over 15 years, Professor Cohen has been a key participant in major domestic and international law reform projects with respect to commercial transactions. He served as a member of the United States delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in conjunction with its preparation of the United Nations Convention on the Assignment of Receivables in International Trade, and he now serves as a member of the delegation to the UNCITRAL Working Group for its broader work regarding secured credit. Professor Cohen, one of only two representatives from the United States at the Vienna Congress, will present “Practical Problems of Integrating Various International Standards of Secured Transactions” in a panel on “New Horizons for Secured Transactions.” Read more about UNCITRAL.
