April 2, 2008 - With time still remaining in the 2007-08 moot court season, 14 Brooklyn Law School teams have already brought home competition prizes. Also, this year for the first time, BLS Teams competed internationally in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria and in the University of Puerto Rico National Criminal Trial Advocacy Competition in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Three teams have taken home top honors in appellate competitions: the ABA National Appellate Team was the New York Region Co-Winner; the Thomas Tang Appellate Moot Court Team took home the top prize in the region and was also a National Semi-Finalist; and the Securities Team won first place and second best brief, and Robert Koonin '09 was awarded the "best oralist" prize.

High honors were won by other appellate teams: the Immigration team and the IT/Privacy team, were both semi-finalists; the Florida Tax Bar and Family Law teams both finished in the quarterfinal round; and the New York City Bar National team took home fifth place and third best overall brief.
In the trial competitions, the two BLS ALA Labor & Employment Law Trial Teams did extremely well. One team won first place at the Fordham University Competition and the other made it to the semi-final round. Two other teams scored second place overall finishes: the AAJ Trial Team and the Puerto Rico Trial team. Additionally, the Texas Young Lawyer's Association team landed in the quarterfinals, and the St. John's Trial Team also advanced, finishing fifth overall.
In Vienna, the appellate team advanced from the general rounds, in which more than 200 teams competed to the first of the elimination rounds, which only 64 teams achieved, and then they advanced again to the second elimination round and were one of the final 32 teams left standing. Additionally, Brian Barbour '08 was personally awarded honorable mention for "best oralist" at the closing ceremony. The Vienna team was coached by Benno Kimmelman, Adjunct Professor of Law and partner at Allen & Overy LLP along with Dana MacGrath, also of Allen & Overy.
"I was very excited that this was the first year our teams went international, and even more excited that they both did especially well," said Caren Wean '08 President of the BLS Moot Court Honor Society.
