Three BLS Professors Ranked in Latest Leiter Report Professors Berger, Twerski and Schneider Recognized

Dec. 3, 2007 – Three professors at Brooklyn Law School ranked in Brian Leiter’s recent survey of “Most Cited Law Professors by Specialty.” The survey, published on his Law School Rankings Web site, a highly respected and comprehensive ranking of law school performance, counted citations in law review articles from 2000 to 2007 that reference scholars in 18 different fields. In each category, 10 or 20 professors are ranked. Suzanne J. & Norman Miles Professor of Law Margaret Berger was listed second in the Evidence category, with 500 citations. Irwin and Jill Cohen Professor of Law Aaron Twerski was ranked eighth in the Torts & Products Liability category with 370 citations. And Rose L. Hoffer Professor of Law Elizabeth Schneider was ranked 17th in the Critical Theories category, with 550 citations. Professor Berger is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading authorities on scientific evidentiary issues, in particular DNA evidence, and is a frequent lecturer across the country on these topics. She is a recipient of the Francis Rawle Award for outstanding contributions to the field of post-admission legal education by the American Law Institute/American Bar Association. Professor Twerski is a preeminent authority in the areas of products liability and tort law. The ABA awarded him the 2007 Robert B. McKay Law Professor Award, and he was co-reporter for the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law (Third) Torts: Products Liability (1998). Professor Schneider is a national expert on gender, law and civil procedure. She is the author of the prize-winning book Battered Women and Feminist Lawmaking (2000) and co-author of the casebook Domestic Violence and the Law: Theory and Practice (2nd ed. forthcoming 2008). She has also written numerous chapters and articles on civil rights, civil procedure, feminist theory and lawmaking, and women’s rights, and has lectured widely on these issues.
