Outstanding Young Lawyer Professor Dana Brakman Reiser has received an Outstanding Young Lawyer Award from the Nonprofit Corporations Committee of the ABA Business Law Section in recognition of her work at the vanguard of research in the emerging field of nonprofit law. Her research and writing focus on nonprofit governance, specifically on issues of responsibility and accountability. Professor Brakman Reiser has published numerous law review articles on this subject, including “Nonprofit Takeovers: Regulating the Market for Mission Control” (Brigham Young University Law Review (2006)), “There Ought to be a Law: The Disclosure Focus of Recent Legislative Proposals for Nonprofit Reform” (Chicago-Kent Law Review (2005)), “Enron.org: Why Sarbanes-Oxley Will Not Ensure Comprehensive Nonprofit Accountability” (UC Davis Law Review (Fall 2004)), “Dismembering Civil Society: The Social Cost of Internally Undemocratic Nonprofits” (Oregon Law Review (2003)), and “Decision-Makers Without Duties: Defining the Duties of Parent Corporations Acting as Sole Corporate Members in Nonprofit Healthcare Systems” (Rutgers Law Review (2001)). Her most recent article, "Independent Directors in the Independent Sector," will be published in the Fordham Law Review (Fall 2007). Professor Brakman Reiser was a co-organizer with Professor Evelyn Brody of the Chicago-Kent Law Review’s symposium on nonprofit governance. She is a member of the Government Relations Committee of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York and served as the academic member of the Nonprofit Organizations Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York from 2003-06. Before joining the faculty, Professor Brakman Reiser was a Legal Fellow in the Office of the General Counsel of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. and Law Clerk to Judge Bruce M. Selya, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Professor Brakman Reiser joined the Brooklyn Law School faculty in 2001. She teaches the Law of Nonprofit Organizations, Property, Corporations, and Trusts and Estates, and serves on the Steering Committee of the Law School’s Center for the Study of International Business Law. Before joining the faculty, Professor Brakman Reiser was a Legal Fellow in the Office of the General Counsel of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. and Law Clerk to Judge Bruce M.
