Access to the databases and online journals listed here is limited to currently enrolled BLS students, BLS faculty and BLS staff. Databases are accessible strictly for academic purposes; use of these resources for commercial or private gain is not permitted. Some databases are password protected and others can only be accessed from the Brooklyn Law School campus. Details for each particular resource are noted in its corresponding description.

Academic Search Premier
Academic Search Premier contains indexing and abstracts for more than 8,300 journals, with full text for more than 4,500 of those titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles. bepress Legal Repository
bepress Legal Repository is a network of law-related research materials. High quality working papers are contributed from law schools, research units, think tanks, conferences and other subject-appropriate groups.

Bloomberg
Bloomberg provides up-to-the minute legal, business and financial information. Access is available to current BLS community members. You must meet with a Bloomberg representative to register for this service and acquire a biometric device.

BNA Products
BNA is a premier publisher of legal treatises and updating services. Over one hundred titles are represented in this collection covering Coporate Law & Business, Employee Benefits, Employment and Labor Law, Environment, Health & Safety, Health Law, Human Resources, Intellectual Property, Litigation and Tax & Accounting. Business and Company ASAP
This database providing busieness researchers with information on companies, markets and industries. It covers market trends, mergers and acquisitions to current management theory and company overviews. Business and Company Resource Center
This database is a fully integrated source that brings together company profiles, brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies and periodicals. CALI
Computer Assisted Legal Research exercises can be downloaded from the CALI web site provided you obtain the password from your instructor or one of the Law Librarians at the school. You can also complete the exercises in any of the computer labs.

CCH Health and Human Resources
The CCH Health and Human Resources collection of databases offers searchable access to primary and secondary materials concerning health issues in the workplace. HHR has eight separate folders to organize your research: Human Resources Management, Payroll, Pension/Benefits, Employment Law, Safety/OSHA Workers Comp., Health Law, Food and Drug, and Interactive Forms. This database requires a password which can be obtained from a Librarian at the Reference Desk in the BLS Library lobby area.

CCH Internet Tax Research Network
CCH Internet Tax Research Network is a full-feature Federal and State tax law research network. This database collection provides access to secondary resources and commentary in addition to statutory, regulatory and other administrative materials related to taxation. If you use this service from a workstation physically present in Brooklyn Law School you do not need a password.

Congressional Universe
Congressional Universe is a service that indexes federal and state legislative history material. The federal material is indexed from 1789 to the present and is bifurcated by date. Please choose the correct data range for your research (1789 to 1969, or 1970 to the present). State Universe indexes legislative information from the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Constitutions of the Countries of the World
This database features the full text of the constitutions of more than 190 nations translated into English. Entries include notes that examine recent amendments and highlight pertinent historical, legal, political and economic information not found in other sources. CQ Weekly
CQ Weekly reports on Congressional activities. You can keyword search this database or browse by subject headings. Online coverage begins in 1983. Directory of Open Access Journals
This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals at a global level.

First Search
First Search provides access to many subject specific databases on a wide variety of topics. These topics range from business periodicals to medical articles. If you are working off campus, you must obtain an authorization code and user name from a reference librarian at Brooklyn Law School Library.

Foreign Law Guide
The Foreign Law Guide offers background of the development of more than 200 countries. It provides bibliographic information on English reprints of these laws and a subject arrangement for easy identification of relevant primary laws. Full Text Sources Online
FSO a directory of publications that are accessible online in full text, from 30 major aggregator products. It covers topics in science, technology, medicine, law, finance, business, industry, the popular press and more. FSO also lists the URLs of publications with Internet archives, noting whether access to them is free or not. FSO Online is updated weekly. You need to obtain a user name and password from a librarian in order to use this resource.

Funk & Wagnells New World Encyclopedia

Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health
This database provides full text access to medical reference materials, including nearly 400 health/medical journals, hundreds of pamphlets, over 700 health-related videos from Healthology, Inc., plus articles from 2,200 general interest publications and a broad collection of health related reference titles. Homeland Security Digital Library
The HSDL collection provides access to important U.S. policy documents, presidential directives, and national strategy documents as well as specialized resources such as theses and reports from various universities, organizations and local and state agencies. The HSDL collection is accessible using full-text searching and browsing with Advanced Search and Browse by topics based on a unique homeland security taxonomy. International Arbitration Treaties

China Law's Isino Law database provides access to national/provincial laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, judicial interpretations and judgments issued by the Supreme People’s Court, and legal news from this vast jurisdiction. Kluwer International Arbitration
Kluwer Arbitration offers Brooklyn Law School students, staff and faculty a fully-searchable database with materials in the field of International Commercial Arbitration. Law and Practice of Arbitration
The Law and Practice of Arbitration is a treatise about the development and practice of arbitration law in the United States. It addresses in detail the recourse to arbitration in domestic matters— employment, labor, consumer transactions, and business—and its use in the resolution of international commercial claims. Lexis-Nexis is a full service, online legal research database. You are required to enter your Lexis-Nexis ID in order to access the Lexis-Nexis databases via the web.

LoisLaw
LoisLaw allows precision searching for American statutory, administrative and case law materials. You are required to register for access to this database. Making of Modern Law Legal Treatises (1800-1926)
The Making of Modern Law Legal Treatises database contains 22,000 titles on US and British law published from 1800 through 1926. The treatises cover a wide range of topics including business planning, constitutional law, administrative law, torts, mortgages, etc. The interface allows full-text searching advanced searching with PDF retrieval and printing. The Trials database provides access to more than 10,000 titles published between 1600-1926. NatLaw (Inter Am Database)
NatLaw provides access to material from Latin American countries in English. In order to use this service, you must contact a librarian and request a password and user id.

New York Law Journal Digest Annotator
The NYLJ serves as a subject access point for cases and articles published in the New York Law Journal. Selected cases are indexed from NY courts in the areas of surrogates practice, civil procedure, civil and criminal law, and federal opinions from the second circuit. You must obtain a user name and password from a reference librarian in order to use this resource.

RIA Checkpoint
Checkpoint is a web-based tax and accounting research tool that will allow you to access important secondary, administrative and primary materials related to tax law research. Users select their own passwords, but must be using a workstation located on the Brooklyn Law School campus when they make their selection. Go to http://ria.thomson.com/cploginids to register. Securities Mosaic provides comprehensive disclosure and regulatory information for securities professionals. Social Sciences Research Network
Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is devoted to the dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks in each of the social sciences including the Accounting, Economics, Financial, Management and Legal Scholarship networks. This service requires you to register for a free individual user name and password.

State Capital Universe
State Universe indexes legislative information from the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Statistical Universe
Statistical Universe permits searching for statistical data compiled by the United States government. This database permits users to manipulate data by combining categories and search terms. For example, you may search for statistics on juvenile delinquency and then request statistics to reflect the difference between urban or rural areas. Twayne's Authors Series - Twayne World, English and US
This database contains the full text of 200 authors' books and poetry that are frequently references. You can conduct a keyword search for particular types of references, or you can view a bibliography for each of these authors. You can access this database off campus by using the BLS proxy server. UN Access
UN Access provides international researchers access to UN material from 1998 to the present. UN Treaty Database
The United Nations posts its multilateral treaties on their web server. This publication contains the texts of over 40,000 bilateral and multilateral treaties in their authentic language(s), along with a translation into English and French, as appropriate. It is recommended that you install in your web browser the AlternaTIFF plug-in. You will be prompted to install this plug-in if it is needed to view any of your results. Virtual Classrooms at Brooklyn Law School
To access your professors’ virtual classrooms hosted either by Lexis or Westlaw, you will need your Lexis or Westlaw passwords. Select the appropriate service from the web course list and click on it.

Westlaw
Westlaw is a full service online legal research resource. This database requires you to enter your Westlaw password in order to access the Westlaw databases via the web. Searching technique is different than using Westlaw proprietary software.

World Arbitration Reporter
ArbitrationLaw Online is your complete up-to-the-minute resource for information and commentary on all facets of international commercial arbitration and dispute resolution. It is updated with new and revised material on a daily basis. Please ask a librarian for a user name and password to access this database.

World Tax Laws
The World Tax Law database provides English translations of foreign laws related to business, commerce, investment, and taxation from more than 100 jurisdictions. The first time you use this database, you must register for access from a workstation at Brooklyn Law School. You will be assigned an ID that is good for the semester which can be used from any internet capable workstation.

World Trade Law.net
This database provides access to dispute commentaries on WTO/NAFTA panel and appellate body reports and WTO arbitrations, a searchable interface for GATT/WTO/NAFTA cases and legal texts, and dispute settlement tables and statistics. American Law and Economic Review
The American Law and Economic Review is a refereed journal produced by the American Law and Economics Association and edited by Professor Orley Ashenfelter and Judge Richard A. Posner. Oxford University Press published the inaugural edition in the Fall of 1999. All issues are available online. You must obtain a password from a librarian to access this database.

American Political Science Review
American Political Science Review is a scholarly research journal, providing peer-reviewed articles and review essays from subfields throughout the discipline. Areas covered include political theory, American politics, public policy, public administration, comparative politics, and international relations. British Journal of Criminology
The British Journal of Criminology is widely consulted by academics and researchers in criminology, probation and social work, and by professionals concerned with law, criminal justice, and penology. Cambridge Law Journal
The Cambridge Law Journal publishes articles on all aspects of law. Special emphasis is placed on contemporary developments, but the journal's range includes jurisprudence and legal history. An important feature of the journal is the Case and Comment section, in which members of the Cambridge Law Faculty and other distinguished contributors analyse recent judicial decisions, new legislation and current law reform proposals.
