Fellows enroll at Brooklyn Law School from all over the United States and around the world. The diverse backgrounds of these students adds richness to the study of international law. In recent years fellows have come to us from Bulgaria, China, Colombia, France, Guyana, Israel, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Many are graduates of the most prestigious colleges and universities. Some have earned graduate degrees, and many have had interesting work experiences here and abroad.

Gillian Cassell-Stiga |
Gillian Cassell-Stiga graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics from the Wharton School and a concentration in Business and Public Policy. In addition to being a Startingbloc fellow and chair of Penn's center for civic engagement, she interned with the Department of Justice and the AIDS Center of Queens County while an undergraduate. Upon graduation she was presented with the Dean's Award for Service to Penn and the Philadelphia Community and began work as the program manager for GirlSporWorks in Cusco, Peru. Most recently she has been working as a research analyst for Competition Policy Associates in Washington DC. She is fluent in Spanish.

Stephanie Castellano |
Stephanie Castellano graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008, with a B.A. in International Relations and Hispanic Studies. She studied abroad in Spain, Italy, and Chile where she attended the Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile. She was an intern at the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia as part of the Think Tank and Civil Society Program. Her senior thesis explored corporate governance and bank reform in Chile. This past summer she was a case assistant working in the Business Litigation group at Faegre & Benson, LLP in Minneapolis, MN.

Jessica Djilani |
Jessica Djilani graduated from Hamilton College in 2006, with a B.A. in English and a minor in French and Government. She studied for a semester in London at Queen Mary College. She was also an intern in the United States House of Representatives for Congresswoman Nita Lowey for a semester in Washington, D.C. Last summer she worked as a Senior Case Assistant at the law firm of Goodwin Procter, LLP and this past summer she worked at the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York. Jessica is a member of the International Law Society, the Corporate & Securities Law Association and the Brooklyn Law Review. She is fluent in French.

Stanton Gallegos graduated magna cum laude from Oklahoma Christian University with a B.S. in Business Administration. For two years after college he worked for CH2M HILL Engineers, an international engineering firm. Last summer he interned at the United States Attorney’s Office, Civil Division, in Phoenix, Arizona. This coming semester he will be an intern for the Honorable David G. Trager in the Eastern District of New York. Stanton is a recipient of the Prince Scholarship, the Lark-Barranco Scholarship and a Dean’s Merit scholar. He is the Treasurer of the International Law Society and a member of the Brooklyn Law Review.

Angelica Grasso |
Angelica Grasso graduated cum laude from Boston College with a B.A. History and a minor in International Studies. This past summer she worked as an intern at the New York State Division of Human Rights as well as attending the Brooklyn Law School Beijing Summer Study Abroad Program. This coming semester she will be an intern at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. Angelica is a recipient of a Dean’s Recognition Scholarship and a member of the International Law Society and the Brooklyn Law Review.

Kevin Johannsen graduated cum laude from Tufts University with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. After graduation he worked as a paralegal at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP. This past summer he was a summer associate at Calypso Capital Management LLP. Kevin is a recipient of a Lisle Scholarship and a member of the Corporate and Securities Law Association and the Journal of Corporate, Financial and Commercial Law.

Nick Kaluk, III graduated from Columbia College with a B.A. in Political Science. After graduation he worked as a legal assistant for four years at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP. This past summer he was a summer associate at Callan, Koster, Brady & Brennan, LLP. Nick is a recipient of a Dean’s Recognition Scholarship and a member of the Corporate and Securities Law Association and the Brooklyn Law Review.

Joshua Noreuil |
Joshua Noreuil graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in History and Japanese. While in college he spent a semester in Japan learning Japanese. During the Spring 2009 semester Joshua worked as a legal intern at Anthony Abraham Arthur & Associates. This past summer he worked as a research assistant for Professor Pinto and this coming semester he will be a legal extern at FINRA. Joshua is a member of the International Law Society and the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. He is fluent in Japanese.

Erin Shinneman |
Erin Shinneman graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a B.A. in Individualized Studies. Last semester she worked as a research assistant for Professor Fullerton and this past summer she worked as a legal intern for the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice. Erin is a Prince Scholar and a recipient of a Dean’s Merit Scholarship. She is a member of the International Law Society and the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. Erin is conversant in Swahili.

Laura Zimmerman |
Laura Zimmerman graduated magna cum laude from American University with a B.A. in International Studies and an M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution. During college, Laura spent a semester in Brussels studying the politics and economics of the European Union and interning with the Transatlantic Policy Network (TPN). She continued to work for TPN in Washington, DC, coordinating EU-US policy discussions between key business leaders and policymakers. Prior to law school, she managed field research projects and wrote proposals for development programs at CHF International, a large international development organization. This past summer Laura worked as a legal intern at the Bronx Defenders, and this semester she is interning for the Honorable Laura Taylor Swain in the Southern District of New York. She is the Professional Development Co-Chair of the International Law Society and a member of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. Laura is proficient in French.
