International Business Law Fellows

Fellows enroll at Brooklyn Law School from all over the United States and around the world. The diverse backgrounds of these students adds richness to the study of international law. In recent years fellows have come to us from Bulgaria, China, Colombia, France, Guyana, Israel, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Many are graduates of the most prestigious colleges and universities. Some have earned graduate degrees, and many have had interesting work experiences here and abroad.

  • Anna Ashurov graduated magna cum laude from Macaulay Honors College (Bernard M. Baruch) with a BBA in Finance and Investments and a minor in Marketing and Philosophy. Upon graduation, she worked as a Credit Analyst and a Banker at JPMorgan Chase. In 2007, Anna joined Barclays Capital in its Global Loans / Fixed Income division, managing a portfolio of leveraged companies. In the wake of the financial crisis, Anna moved to the Credit Restructuring and Advisory Group (CRAG) at Barclays Capital, where she currently works as a Workout Officer, looking over a portfolio of distressed assets in various industries. In CRAG, Anna oversaw LandSource Communities Development bankruptcy, which was later named “Chapter 11 Reorganization of the Year” in a $1 billion category. Anna is a Metrick Family Endowed Scholar, an Associate Managing Editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law, served as a Student Advocate for the Consumer Counseling and Bankruptcy Clinic and was an evening student delegate for the Student Bar Association. Anna is fluent in Russian and Farsi and is proficient in conversational Spanish. Anna resides in Brooklyn, NY with her husband and two daughters.
  • Nikolaus Caro graduated cum laude from Loyola Marymount University with a BA in Political Science. While an undergraduate, he worked as a Junior Operations Intern in the Equity Department at International Fund Services, as well as a summer intern for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. This past summer, he interned for the Honorable Eric N. Vitaliano in the Eastern District of New York.  This coming semester, he will be an intern with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in the Division of the Enforcement.  Nikolaus is a Carswell Scholar and an Academic Achievement Scholar, and a recipient of a Centennial Grant.  In addition, he is a member of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law.
  • An Ngoc Duong

    An Ngoc Duong graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A. in the Science in Society Program with a concentration in philosophy and neuroscience. After graduation, An worked in her sister's Chicago-based retail business as a store manager and buyer, enjoying overseas sourcing trips. After four years, she moved to NYC where she spent two years working as a Commercial Litigation Paralegal for White & Case LLP. During the summer of 2010, An worked as a Legal Clerk in the Ho Chi Minh City office of Hogan Lovells LLP. The following fall, she interned with the New York Regional Office of the International Rescue Committee. This past summer, An was a summer associate in the General Counsel's Office at Credit Suisse. As a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, An competed in the 2010 Jessup International Law Competition, earning sixth best oralist and third best memorial. She will compete this spring in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Competition. An is a Carswell and Academic Achievement Scholar. She is a recipient of a Centennial Grant, the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Washington's Hong Duc Clerkship and a CALI Excellence for the Future Award. An speaks Vietnamese and has a working knowledge of Spanish.

  • Nidhi M. Geevarghese

    Nidhi M. Geevarghese graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon (International Honor Society in Economics). Prior to starting law school, Nidhi worked as a corporate legal assistant at Skadden, Arps, and as an associate at Morgan Stanley in the Legal and Compliance Department.  Last summer, Nidhi was a summer associate at Labaton Sucharow LLP where she worked on securities fraud and antitrust class action litigation. Nidhi is also pursuing an MBA at the Zicklin School of Business and is an Executive Notes and Comments Editor on the Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Financial and Commercial Law.

  • Nabilah Hossain graduated from New York University with a BA in Politics and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. During college, she studied abroad in Prague and worked at the East West Institute, where she focused on peace initiatives for the Middle East Region. Upon graduation she worked at the Office of the General Counsel at Merrill Lynch in the Equities Group. She was a student advocate with the Safe Harbor Clinic, where she successfully assisted her client from being removed and adjusted her immigration status in the United States. This past summer, she worked for the Honorable Magistrate Judge Robert M. Levy in the Eastern District of New York. She is a recipient of the Richardson Scholarship and the Centennial Grant. Nabilah is fluent in spoken Bengali.
  • Jenny Lee graduated cum laude from Villanova University in 2009, with a major in English and a minor in Business. This summer, she was a Summer Associate at the New York and Paris offices of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP.  Jenny, an Academic Achievement and Dean’s Merit Scholar, is a recipient of the Prince Scholarship, Centennial Grant, and CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Civil Procedure. She is also a member of the Brooklyn Law Review.
  • Alexis Newman graduated with Distinction from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, where she earned her BBA in Finance and Accounting. After graduation, she worked at AOL for three years, first in the account management group, and then in the strategic development group.  During the Summer of 2010, Alexis worked in the General Counsel's office at Epic Advertising in New York, and during the Fall of 2010, Alexis interned for Judge Andrew J. Peck, Magistrate Judge in the Southern District of New York.  In the Spring semester of 2011, Alexis competed in and won the Irving R. Kaufman Memorial Securities Law Moot Court Competition.  She is an Articles Editor on the Brooklyn Law Review and a recipient of the Richardson and Academic Achievement scholarships and the Centennial Grant.  This past summer, Alexis worked as a summer associate at Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP.
  • Jeremi Roux graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. in Philosophy.  A native South African, he was a member of the Penn State rugby team. This past summer, Jeremi was a summer associate with Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP, a 180 attorney securities litigation firm.  Last summer he interned with Magistrate Judge Maas in the Southern District of New York, and spent the year as a legal extern with FINRA's Market Regulation Department. Jeremi is a recipient of the Richardson Scholarship and Centennial Grant, as well as a member of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. He is fluent in Afrikaans.
  • Zaid Shukrigraduated cum laude from New York University in 2006, with a B.M. in Music Business. He was a professional jazz bassist for three years before attending law school, and has performed throughout the United States, Europe and South Africa. This past summer he worked as a summer associate at the law firm of Moses & Singer LLP.  Last summer he interned in the chambers of the Honorable Charles E. Ramos in the Commercial Division of the New York County Supreme Court. Zaid is a recipient of the Prince Scholarship, and is a member of the Brooklyn Law Review.
  • Nandini Sur graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University with a B.A. in History-Sociology.  After graduation she worked as a Corporate Paralegal at Allen & Overy LLP.  Last summer she was a legal intern for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.  Last semester she was a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Martin Glenn, United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. This summer she was a summer associate at Linklaters LLP.  Nandini is an Associate Managing Editor of the Journal of International Law and she is fluent in Hindi.
  • Lillian Tan graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a BA in English and American Literature. Before law school, she has worked as an English language assistant near Paris, France for seven months and interned at Amnesty International. Last summer, she worked at the Law Department of the Kings County Supreme Court.  Currently, she is interning at MasurLaw, an intellectual property transaction firm in Union Square. She has also worked in the General Counsels for Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. and Interpublic Group. She is proficient in French.
