he Dennis J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law was established by the Law School to study and shape international business law and policy. A central component of the Center is the International Business Law Fellowship Program, which provides an enriched educational experience for students interested in pursuing careers in the field. The Center draws upon the Brooklyn Law School faculty’s depth of scholarship and experience and its strong international and business law curriculum. It is also known for sponsoring outstanding symposia on such topics as international securities regulation, trade, banking, international taxation, pension reform, and intellectual property law. These programs bring together leading practitioners, government officials, and legal scholars from around the world to discuss legal and public policy issues of concern to the international, financial and trading markets. The symposia are frequently co-sponsored by the Brooklyn Journal of International Law or the Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Commercial and Financial Law. The Center also sponsors economic forums at which academics present scholarly papers and brown bag lunches for its fellows.
Established in 1987 to respond to increasing globalization of the economy, the Center was named in 2007 for Dennis J. Block, Class of 1967. A prominent corporate counselor and partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, he teaches Advanced Corporate Law as an adjunct professor.
