Technology
Brooklyn Law School resumes get to employers' desks faster. Being on the cutting edge of career services technology is important to us and is symbolic of our commitment to our students.
The Career Center uses Symplicity Corporation's Career Services Manager ("CSM"), a comprehensive web-based system, to process and share information internally and with students and employers. Job listings are posted, on-campus interviews are scheduled, and Career Center alerts and announcements greet you each day on your own home page. Many "quick links" make accessing the system fast and easy. In addition, you can upload your resumes, cover letters and unofficial transcripts for submission to employer job postings. Another important feature of CSM is an automatic alert when a posted job fits your search criteria. CSM is available to students and alumni for an unlimited time at no charge.
In the Center's Computer Room, student and graduates may use computers and printers to prepare resumes and cover letters, copy and fax career-related materials, and access the Internet.
Career Center Programs
Each semester the Career Center presents a series of panel discussions and roundtables about careers in specific practice areas and on hiring practices and job opportunities unique to certain employers. Distinguished Brooklyn Law School alumni and other practitioners participate in discussions of these issues along with professional staff. Skills workshops on interviewing, writing, and networking are also presented. All programs are videotaped for viewing on the Center's Web site.
These programs are supplemented each year by the Center's annual Career Conversations Fair, now in its 14th year. Held each fall, the Fair brings students together with more than 50 alumni practitioners from more than 25 practice areas for several hours of informal conversations about careers in the law.
Publications
The Center’s Career Planning Manual (PDF) is available online and contains comprehensive information about the Center’s facilities, resources, and services, as well as an overview of career options in both the private and public sectors. The Manual also contains discussions of resume and cover letter preparation, and interviewing tips.
Resource Library
Although much information is readily available on the Internet, the Career Center maintains an impressive Career Center Library (PDF) containing the latest books, directories and periodicals about legal careers and alternative careers, as well as information about specific law firms, government agencies, corporations, public interest organizations, and the judiciary. The staff of the Center also prepares numerous materials on various career-related topics and maintains databases of law firms, by size, in New York City, New Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island, that students can use in connection with their job search.
