Students generally find that their work in public interest and government internships and in pro bono projects to be deeply rewarding and to be a great opportunity to build both their public interest and legal credentials.
Brooklyn Law School's Commitment to Public Service
Brooklyn Law School is committed to providing students with opportunities to build their legal skills while serving members of the community and in doing our part to produce the next generation of attorneys trained and dedicated to ensuring that marginalized communities are not denied access to justice. For more information about these opportunities, click on the Internships, Clinics or Pro Bono Projects links above.
Recognizing both the responsibility of the entire legal profession to provide legal services to those of limited means, and the substantial and critical services Brooklyn Law students provide in the community, graduating students having performed over 50 hours of public service during their law school years are recognized at the Public Service Awards Ceremony and Reception each spring.
Keeping a Public Service Work Log
The Public Service Work Log is used both to determine eligibility for the Public Service Awards in the Spring of your graduating year, and to ensure that the Law School is aware of the public interest work undertaken by its students and monitor, increase, and enhance the variety and quality of opportunities for public interest work to meet student needs.
Evaluating Your Work Placements
Please complete anInternship Evaluation Form (PDF) after each internship. These evaluations help other students determine what internships will best meet their needs, and help the Law School to maintain relationships with employers, and build new opportunities with others as dictated by student interests. Take advantage of the courtesy of other students and view internship evaluations (BLS username and password required).
