Our eight attorney-counselors teach students how to market themselves effectively, substantially increasing their success in the job market, both during law school and after graduation. Individual counseling is the centerpiece of our work. During these sessions, our professional staff monitors and guides career development; helps students find part-time, summer and post-graduate employment related to their interests; hones interviewing skills; teaches resume and cover letter writing; and helps develop dynamic career strategies. Early in the first semester, career counselors are assigned to the first-year class, introducing them to the Career Center, our staff, and to the skills-building activities and career opportunities that will help guide them to successful careers as lawyers. This early outreach establishes an effective and continuing pattern of results-oriented interaction among the students and our professional staff.
The Director of Public Service Programs specializes in the development of job opportunities in government and public interest careers, and our students are selected regularly for a number of highly competitive summer and post-graduate fellowships. The Director of Public Service Programs also assists the School's Edward V. Sparer Public Interest Law Fellows in identifying and securing summer placements. The Sparer Program provides summer fellowships to qualified students seeking to explore the practice of public interest law. Sparer Fellows have distinguished themselves throughout the United States and abroad.
Scheduled appointments and a generous open-door policy provide students with easy access to the professional staff. We meet the needs of our evening students through evening hours, special appointment times and telephone sessions. And all students can get in touch with us anytime by email and fax.
