David P. Bloch was named the Director of the Division of Mortgage, Investments and Risk Analysis for the Office of the Inspector General of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (“FHFA”). He oversees the FHFA’s work in the Capital Markets businesses of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, particularly the use of derivatives and hedging activities in the investment portfolios of the two businesses as well as matters pertaining to Market Risk, Credit Risk an Operations Risk. Patricia J. Epstein, a shareholder in the Madison, WI firm of Bell, Moore & Richter, S.C., was elected to the board of directors of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin for a three-year term. She focuses her practice on civil litigation matters, defending physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in medical malpractice cases, as well as licensing, disciplinary and credentialing matters. Epstein was also selected as a “2012 Woman in the Law” by the Wisconsin Law Journal. (8/13/2012)

Terri A. Herubin joined Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers LLC as the portfolio manager of the Cornerstone Patriot Fund, an open end U.S. core real estate commingled fund with $1.7 billion in gross asset value. She was previously principal portfolio manager at The Townsend Group and was a member of The Townsend Group’s Investment Committee. (10/2/2012)

Robert F. Kramer, previously a partner at Howrey LLP and Morrison & Foerster LLP, joined the San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices of SNR Denton LLP as a partner in its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group. Kramer represents companies in patent cases involving electronics, networking, data transmission, light emitting diodes (LEDs), telecommunications, semiconductors, medical devices, biotechnology and other technologies. Sheila N. Passenant an associate in the Charlotte, NC office of Wishart Norris Henninger & Pittman was presented with a Commitment of Justice Award from United Family Services in April 2012. The award recognized her work in the agency’s Legal Representation Project which provides victims of domestic violence with free legal representation in obtaining domestic violence restraining orders. Passenant practices in the area of family law. (4/30/2012)

Maureen F. Roaldsen, a former Miss Subway from the 1960’s, will be featured in an exhibit opening on October 23 at the New York Transit Museum and in a book due out in November, Meet Miss Subways, (Smith/Kerr Associates). Both the exhibit and the book chronicle the lives of the nearly 200 women who were selected, by public referendum, to receive this honor between 1941 and 1976. The winner would get a black and white poster featuring her face and a snappy summation of her life and aspirations splashed on every subway car in New York City. When Roaldsen was selected, she was in her early 20s and a secretary at Downstate Medical Center. In her 40s, she went on to attend Brooklyn Law School at night and she recently retired after working as a lawyer for the New York State Appellate Court in Brooklyn. (10/4/2012)

Michael A. Scotto, previously Chief of the Rackets Bureau and Deputy Chief of the Investigation Division at the New York County District Attorney’s Office, joined the New York City office of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein , P.C., as of counsel in the firm’s Criminal Defense Group. Scotto represents individual clients, businesses, unions, and other entities in grand jury and internal investigations, and he also serves as an independent private sector inspector general. Howard S. Shafer, managing partner of the New York Insurance and Corporate Liability Defense firm of Shafer Glazer, LLP, is the new 2013 chair of the Corporate Counsel Section of the New York State Bar Association, whose membership includes over 1,700 attorneys. Shafer, who has been named a “Super Lawyer” every year since 2006, is also the president and general counsel of Counsel Holdings, Inc. that operates a national consortium of insurance and corporate liability defense law firms.
