Wanda K. Denson-Low '81 Named Internal Governance Head of Boeing
Wanda K. Denson-Low '81 was named head of the Office of Internal Governance and promoted to Senior Vice President of The Boeing Company, the world's largest aerospace company with more than 150,000 employees worldwide.
In her new position, Denson-Low is responsible for establishing the strategic direction of the company's overall ethics and compliance infrastructure and has oversight for internatl audit, ethics and business conduct, import and export compliance requirements. Denson-Low brings 25 years of experience in corporate law and human resources management. Previously, she served as vice president and assistant general counsel for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (IDS), the $32 billion defense and space unit of Boeing. Prior to that position, as vice president of human resources for IDS, she was responsible for the successful implementation of employee policies, strategies and processes for the more than 75,000-person workforce.
"The strong foundation in law that I gained at Brooklyn Law School has served me well throughout my career especially as Assistant General Counsel for a Fortune 500 Company," Denson-Low said. She also cites her clinical internship at the U.S. Attorney's Office as a particularly significant experience she had while a law student. "My time as an intern in [that] office was an influential period for me and I am thankful for the opportunity."
Denson-Low became a member of the Boeing legal team in October 2000, as part of the Boeing acquisition of Hughes Space and Communications, where she had risen to the position of general counsel for the $3.5 billion company. Her distinguished professional career began in 1981 as a patent attorney at Union Carbide Corporation.
In addition to her demanding profession and family life, Denson-Low - who is married and a mother of two children - also finds time to be a leader in various professional organizations as well as in her community. She is currently a member of the board of trustees for College Bound, a member of the Windward School board of trustees, and a former board member for the Japanese American National Museum.
Denson-Low's extensive list of professional achievements and awards include the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund Award, which recognized Denson-Low as one of the thirty most powerful women in business; the Barbara Clark Pioneer Award from the Boeing chapter of the Amelia Earhart Society, representing women in aerospace; and the Silver Anniversary Award from the Los Angeles Black Women Lawyers' Association, for her invaluable contributions to the community.
