Take Your Legal Studies Abroad

2013 Summer Study Abroad Program in Bologna, Italy

The Summer Program at the University of Bologna is jointly sponsored by Brooklyn Law School and Loyola Law School of Los Angeles. The Program offers students an opportunity to study a variety of international and comparative topics with distinguished faculty from both American and European law schools. A special attraction of the program is its affiliation with the University of Bologna's Faculty of Law.

The program is scheduled when the University is in session and as a result American students who participate in the program will have an opportunity to interact with Italian students. The two-week program will run from May 26 - June 8, 2013, while the three-week program will run from May 26 - June 15, 2013.

  • Since the March 22, 2013 deadline has passed if you would like to stay at Hotel Touring or Hotel Holiday, you must contact the hotel with your credit card to reserve your room.  Send an email to Lorraine McDonald at Lorraine.mcdonald@brooklaw.edu and she will provide you with contact information at the hotel.  Please note that there is no guarantee that Hotel Touring or Hotel Holiday will be able to accommodate you.

Cost is based upon approximately $1.33 to €1 and may be different in the summer. A $400 advance deposit is required to secure hotel accomodation through the program. Non-students who accompany students will also have to pay the $400 hotel deposit. In most cases, we have negotiated a lower rate than the hotels normally charge for all the housing alternatives.

The City of Bologna has recently introduced a local tourist tax that hotel guests are required to pay. The tax is between 1€ and 4 € (per person, per night) for the first 5 nights of the stay, according to the room rate.

Based upon student preferences in prior years, we have designated the Hotel Touring as the main hotel for the program. In addition, we have reserved rooms at Hotel Holiday.

Priority for all apartments is given to students who sign up for the three-week session and by the date the application is received.

    Reservation Policy & Deadline
Students who wish to receive our special rates, which are lower than those at hotels of comparable quality, must submit the housing application and the housing deposit of $400 by February 22, 2013. The deposit becomes non-refundable on March 23, 2013. Students will pay the remaining housing fees directly to the hotel in Italy where they stay.

When you choose a time frame, you are responsible for the costs of the room during that period. If you arrive earlier or stay later, your student rate is not guaranteed and must be worked out by you and the hotel.

    PLEASE NOTE:
The week before the program begins the international trade exhibition "Autopromotec” will take place in Bologna. Students who intend to arrive in Bologna before the study abroad program begins on May 26 may have to reserve a room in an hotel other than Hotel Touring or Hotel Holiday until May 26 since Touring and Holiday will most likely be filled.
