very summer, Brooklyn Law School students have the opportunity to combine law study and travel in two summer abroad programs. Offered in conjunction with Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, our programs give students the chance to study international or comparative law for two or three weeks in Beijing or Bologna and earn academic credit. Brooklyn Law School students also have the opportunity to study international and comparative business Law for a semester in the Fall at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany and international law at The University of Essex. Read more.

Summer Study Abroad

Beijing, China (May 24-June 6, 2008)
The Beijing Program is hosted at China’s prestigious University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). The program offers students the opportunity to study a range of international or comparative law topics. Courses are taught in English by faculty from BLS and Loyola, with lectures by distinguished members of UBIE’s Law Faculty. The program also allows time for visits to local cultural and legal institutions and for meeting Chinese law students.

The two-week program will run from May 24-June 6. The 2009 Beijing Summer Program brochure will be posted here in early December.


Bologna, Italy (May 24-June 6 or May 24-June 13, 2008)
The Bologna Program is hosted by the University of Bologna. Founded in the 11th century, it is the oldest university in Europe, and a renowned center of law study since the Middle Ages. Courses in international business law and comparative topics are taught by distinguished faculty from American and European law schools.

The courses offered will be Comparative Constitutional Law (1 credit), Prof. Mazzone; Comparative Family Law
(2 credits), Prof. Garrison; International Arbitration (1 credit), Prof. Orlandi/Borghesi; World Legal Systems (1 credit), Prof. Tiersma.

The two-week program will run from May 24-June 6, while the three-week program from May 24-June 13. The 2009 Bologna Summer Program brochure will be posted here in early December.


Exchange Programs

Hamburg, Germany
Brooklyn Law School is proud to announce the fifth year of its exchange program with Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany. The Law School will select two Brooklyn Law School students to attend Bucerius Law School, and Bucerius will select two German students to study at Brooklyn Law School in Fall 2008. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 7, 2008.

The Bucerius Law School Program in International and Comparative Business Law is designed for law students who wish to broaden and extend their understanding of the forces that shape international business law. The program offers a unique opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of German, European and international law.

Students will take courses in English, and students proficient in German will have the option to audit other law courses at Bucerius. Program courses cover all main fields of German law taught from an international or comparative perspective. Students will also have the opportunity to study the German language prior to the beginning of the semester.

Colchester, England
Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 -- Brooklyn Law School is proud to announce the inauguration of its exchange program with The University of Essex in Colchester, England. The Essex Program is designed primarily for law students wishing to broaden and extend their understanding of international law. Courses in the program are taught in English.

Two Brooklyn Law School students will be selected to attend Essex in the spring semester of their second year and two students to attend Essex in the fall semester of their third year. To be considered, students must have a minimum 2.700 cumulative GPA.

Applications for the Spring 2009 program from students who have completed one year of full time or two years of part-time study by the end of the Fall 2008 semester are due on Friday, October 17, 2008.

Applications must include the application form, a personal statement, two letters of recommendation from members of the Brooklyn Law School faculty, a resume and a transcript.
